Message from the President of Sri Lanka
The combination of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with healthcare provision is deemed to be an effective prescription against ailing healthcare systems in many countries around the globe.
As our nation launches into an era of rapid development in all sectors, the Government of Sri Lanka has embraced the cutting edge of technology. We have recognized that Information and Communication Technology has the potential to vastly improve the daily lives of our people. The 'e-Sri Lanka' Initiative which is being implemented by the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka has already made significant progress in taking the dividends of ICT to the people.
It is my vision that all citizens of Sri Lanka enjoy higher standards of quality of life as we strive to ensure efficiency, efficacy and equitable distribution of our healthcare system. In this context, the timely steps taken by the Ministry of Health and Health Informatics Society of Sri Lanka together with the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka to formulate a strategic plan to incorporate ICT into the healthcare system please me. The experiences gained and lessons learned in tackling a myriad of challenges in the digitization process of healthcare by the pioneers, form the backbone of this 5th international conference. It gives me immense pleasure in extending my wishes to such a congregation of intellect.

Message from the President of HISSL
It is with pleasure that I issue this message to invite one and all to eHealth Sri Lanka 2010.
This is the newest edition of the series of conferences that the Health Informatics Society of Sri Lanka has been organizing since 1999 to promote eHealth in Sri Lanka. It will also be the largest and most diverse conference of them all.
This year's conference is special because it attempts to highlight the eHealth achievements in the Health Sector in Sri Lanka and provide a platform for those who have made innovative contributions to develop and implement eHealth applications in Sri Lanka to showcase their initiatives.
I also wish to invite delegates from the region to and around the world who wish to come to eHealth Sri Lanka 2010 to present their work, share their experience, and learn from the local innovations.
I look forward to welcoming all of you to eHealth Sri Lanka 2010 in September.

Heath Informatics Society of Sri Lanka (HISSL) is the only professional organization in Sri Lanka that works tirelessly to enhance the field of health Informatics in the country. Since its inception in 1998 the HISSL has grown in stature. The four academic sessions organized by HISSL to date were resounding successes.
For the first time in Sri Lanka, the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) of the University of Colombo is training skilled professionals in the field of Bio-Medical Informatics through a Masters in Science program. With these new trainees entering the county’s health sector, it is bound to progress rapidly in the immediate future.
I am happy to hear the ‘e Health 2010’ conference has been organized as a truly international conference. To be held on 15th and 16th of September 2010 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla this will symbolize coming age of this field which is relatively new to our country. Prominent panel of speakers and a distinguished gathering will be attending the conference. It would be the best forum to meet, exchange views and ascertain the future directions of the health informatics in Sri Lanka.
As the immediate past president of HISSL and Director of the PGIM I wish to commend the ‘e-Health 2010’ organising committee for undertaking such an ambitious project and wish them success .
